The action thriller Vettaiyan, starring the legendary Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, is making waves at the box office, having crossed an impressive Rs 275 crore within its first week of release. With its current trajectory, the film will mint the Rs 300 crore milestone shortly.
Vettaiyan Box Office Collection
In its opening week, Vettaiyan showcased strong box office performance, earning Rs 77.90 crore on day one, followed by Rs 45.26 crore on day two, and Rs 47.87 crore on day three. The momentum continued with collections of Rs 41.32 crore on day four, Rs 27.80 crore on day five, Rs 24.16 crore on day six, and Rs 20.58 crore on day seven. By Wednesday, the film's total worldwide box office collection stood at Rs 284.89 crore, according to film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan.
Despite heavy rains affecting parts of Tamil Nadu and impacting its domestic box office performance, Vettaiyan managed to generate substantial revenue. The film's day-wise collections in India were as follows: Rs 31.7 crore on opening day, Rs 24 crore on day two, Rs 26.75 crore on day three, Rs 22.3 crore on day four, and a decline to Rs 5.6 crore, Rs 4.3 crore, and approximately Rs 4.15 crore on days five, six, and seven, respectively. This brings the domestic box office total to Rs 118.80 crore, as reported by the film trade portal Sacnilk. With advance bookings picking up momentum, the film's domestic collections are anticipated to rise.
Vettaiyan has been one of the year's most anticipated releases. The film, released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi, marks Amitabh Bachchan's debut in the Tamil film industry and his reunion with Rajinikanth after over three decades. The duo last appeared together in the 1991 film Hum, which also starred Govinda.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan revolves around an encounter specialist's pursuit of a criminal involved in an educational scam. Rajinikanth plays the role of the encounter specialist, while Amitabh Bachchan portrays Sathyadev, a human rights judge.
The film features an impressive ensemble cast, including Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, and Dushara Vijayan. Vettaiyan was released in theaters worldwide on October 10, just a day ahead of Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri's Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Waala Video and Alia Bhatt's Jigra. With its star-studded cast and gripping storyline, Vettaiyan is set to continue its box office success in the coming weeks.
