The iconic singer will take the stage at a special concert celebrating the timeless legacy of India's most beloved playback singer. This tribute concert promises to be an emotional and nostalgic journey, with Sonu Nigam rendering some of Mohammed Rafi's most iconic songs.
Titled 'Sau Saal Pehle', the show on December 24 will mark Sonu Nigam's first-ever Rafi concert in India. Sharing about how the concert will not be an ordinary concert, Sonu Nigam aims to relive the magic of Rafi's era, showcasing the legendary singer's incredible range and depth. Moreover, every song and emotion of Rafi Saab's music conveyed will be relived by the audience and Sonu Nigam himself. It is going to be a festival– Mohammed Rafi Festival.
Marking his return to paying homage to the legendary singer after a 16-year interval, he recalled his previous Rafi tribute show, 'Rafi Resurrected, which he performed in the UK in 2008 in collaboration with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
About the upcoming concert, Sonu Nigam revealed that he is eager to take the stage in Mumbai and revisit Rafi Saab's timeless classics. Sonu Nigam said that "it's surreal that the families of my mentors, who I deeply respect, have entrusted me with this honor," as the idea for this tribute show was sparked by the families of his gurus, Firdaus Rafi ji and Shahid Rafi ji (Rafi Saab's family) and Rabbani Mustafa Khan and Namrata Gupta (Ustaad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Saab's family), who approached him with the proposal.
According to Sonu Nigam's experience and learnings from his guru, he believes that Rafi Saab's legacy is a treasure of emotions, passion, and music. Sharing his emotions, Sonu feels honoured to pay tribute to the legendary singer on his 100th birth anniversary. This concert is a humble attempt to keep his memory alive and celebrate his timeless music.
