Bollywood star Alia Bhatt revealed for the first time that she has been clinically diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Reflecting on her childhood and personal growth, Alia shared how she used to frequently "zone out" during conversations and school lessons. This experience, which she had long dismissed, recently made more sense when she underwent a psychological test that confirmed her ADHD diagnosis.
Alia Bhatt Opens About Her ADHD
"I used to get zoned out from a young age," Alia recalled. "I would drift off in the classroom or during conversations. Recently, I did a psychological test and found out that I am high on the ADHD spectrum. Whenever I shared this with my friends, they would say, 'We always knew.' It wasn’t much of a revelation to them, but it was to me. That’s when I realized why I feel most at peace in front of the camera."
Alia explained that despite her ADHD, she finds herself fully engaged in two significant areas of her life: when she is working on set, and when she is with her daughter, Raha, whom she shares with actor Ranbir Kapoor. Raha was born in November 2022, and according to Alia, motherhood has brought her a new sense of presence and calm.
"I am most present in two moments—when I am playing a character on camera and when I am with Raha," Alia said. "These are the times in my life where I feel truly peaceful."
Alia’s recent release, Jigra, directed by Vasan Bala, has garnered attention for her powerful performance, and it’s clear that her passion for acting continues to drive her. For the actor, the camera has always provided an outlet for focus and emotional expression, despite the challenges of ADHD.
What is ADHD?
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder most commonly diagnosed in childhood or adolescence. However, many adults, like Alia, may not realize they have the condition until later in life. ADHD symptoms include hyperactivity, impulsiveness, and difficulty focusing or paying attention. Despite being a chronic condition, many individuals with ADHD go on to lead healthy, successful lives.
For Alia Bhatt, her diagnosis sheds light on a personal challenge she has navigated for years, but it also underscores how she channels her focus and energy into her work and family. As she continues to excel both in her career and personal life, Alia's candidness about ADHD brings a refreshing perspective to mental health conversations in the entertainment industry.
