The much-debated and highly controversial reality show, Bigg Boss, has returned with its 18th season, once again captivating viewers with its mix of drama, personal revelations, and emotional exchanges. True to its nature, the show continues to provide a platform for contestants to share intimate details of their personal lives. Among the participants this season is Bollywood actress Shilpa Shirodkar, who recently laid bare some of the most challenging moments of her life, making a powerful impact on viewers.
Shilpa Shirodkar's Battle with Depression After Her Parents' Death
In the emotionally charged episode aired on 8th October, Shilpa opened up during a heartfelt conversation with fellow contestant Gunaratna Sadavarte. She revisited a painful chapter from her past—the loss of both her parents in 2008, an event that plunged her into a deep depression. Reflecting on her experience, Shilpa tearfully recounted how her husband, Apresh Ranjit, became her rock and source of support during those trying times.
“When my parents passed away in 2008, I sank into a deep depression,” Shilpa revealed, her voice heavy with emotion. She went on to share how her husband, Apresh, sacrificed his career at the peak of its success to help her through this dark period. “Apresh was excelling in his career, but he sacrificed everything, and we moved back to India.” Shilpa’s deep gratitude for her husband’s support was clear as she noted that, had Apresh not made that personal sacrifice, his career in the banking sector could have soared to even greater heights.
No Regrets About Leaving the Film Industry
During the conversation, Gunaratna lauded Shilpa for her illustrious acting career and compared her to Bollywood icons like Madhuri Dixit. He remarked, “You were among the few actresses who could have achieved the same stature as Madhuri. Yet, you suddenly chose to step away from the industry.”
In response, Shilpa humbly attributed her career choices to fate, stating, “It all comes down to destiny, and I have no regrets.” Her calm yet firm tone indicated that her decision to step away from the limelight had been made with a sense of inner peace. However, Gunaratna was quick to add that while she may harbour no remorse, her fans certainly miss her presence on the silver screen.
A Legacy of Work in Films and Television
Shilpa Shirodkar has an impressive body of work in both films and television, having appeared in productions such as Silsila Pyaar Ka and Savitri Devi College & Hospital. Her return to the limelight with Bigg Boss 18 marks her much-awaited comeback to television after a hiatus. Despite the challenges she has faced, her resilience and grace continue to shine through, endearing her to a whole new generation of fans.
Her family, too, has shown immense pride in her participation on the show. Her sister, actress Namrata Shirodkar, and brother-in-law, celebrated actor Mahesh Babu, have publicly expressed their joy and support for Shilpa’s decision to be a part of the reality show.
