Liam Payne, a former One Direction singer was found dead outside a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires after the 31-year-old fell from his third-floor room balcony. The singer and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy arrived in Argentina for a vacation on September 30, posting several social media posts together. According to the reports, Kate left Argentina on October 14, while Liam stayed behind and checked into CasaSur Palermo Hotel. Meanwhile, social media posts revealed that he attended his former bandmate Niall Horan's concert on October 2.
This incident occurred shortly after 5 PM, before which Liam had been acting erratic in the hotel lobby– he smashed his laptop and had to be carried back to his room. In a statement, the capital police said they were called to the hotel after being notified of an "aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol."
The hotel manager reported hearing a loud noise at the back of the building, and when police arrived, they discovered a man had fallen from his room's balcony. Later in the investigation, it was confirmed that the deceased was a British singer.
Fans gathered outside the hotel to mourn the 31-year-old's death, lighting candles, singing One Direction songs and observing moments of silence. In addition to the fans, many celebrities and singers have paid tribute and shared heartfelt messages to the singer on their social media accounts.
American singer Charlie Puth said on Instagram, "I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I cannot believe he is gone."
U.S. music channel MTV, and the BRITs British Music Awards expressed their grief on social media, sending their condolences to his family and loved ones.
Liam was only 16 years old when he joined the British Boyband One Direction. The band, which was formed in 2010, also included Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan and gained recognition after it appeared on the UK version of the reality competition show "The X Factor."
