Chum Darang was announced as a contestant on Bigg Boss 18 during its grand premiere on October 8, 2024. She created a stir among the netizens for praising her beauty, style and fashion game on her social media posts. The actress has a strong fanbase and is extremely popular among the Gen Z crowd for her breathtaking styles.

The first significant highlight of Bigg Boss 18 occurred when Chum Darang was seen interacting with the co-contestants. However, things took a dramatic turn when Shehzada Dhami and Avinsh Mishra began mocking her name and ethnicity.

The heated argument began when Chum and Shehzada were sitting with other housemates. Shehzada  remarked that a particular food was extremely spicy saying, "Mirchi Lag Rahi hain," to which Chum Darang immediately asked if he was referring to the chutney. In response, Shehzada Dhami commented, "Tumhare udhar ki hain na?" This remark did not go well with Chum Darang, who was clearly provoked by Shehzada's words and retorted, "Tumhare udhar ka matlab?" "I am Indian and I am offended."

As soon as the clip erupted on social media, netizens slammed Shehzada Dhami for his insensitive behaviour and called him racist, while they hailed Chum for her fierce attitude.

Not only this but Shehzada Dhami along with Avinash Mishra were seen making fun of Chum's name. Shehzada repeatedly said that her name is just Chum, while Avinash denied and said, the full name must be something." Responding to which Shehzada did not believe and said "Hey, it's Chum only." Answering to which Chum came out and told her full name.
