Karan Johar's much-anticipated film Jigra has officially graced the silver screen, with Alia Bhatt in the lead role. However, the film's release has not been without its share of controversy. Divya Khosla Kumar, a prominent figure in the film industry, has publicly questioned the authenticity of Jigra's box office collection, labeling it as "fake."
In a swift response to Khosla Kumar's remarks, Karan Johar took to social media to convey a cryptic message: "Silence is the best speech you can give to fools." This post seems to have ignited further animosity, prompting Khosla Kumar to retort, "Fools are always troubled by the truth. When you grow accustomed to shamelessly taking away others' rights, you will inevitably resort to silence. You will lack a voice and a backbone."
Khosla Kumar did not stop there; she offered her observations about Jigra's screening experience. "I attended a screening of Jigra at City Mall PVR, and the theater was completely empty," she stated. "All the theaters are empty. Alia Bhatt is genuinely very jigra... she bought the tickets herself and announced fake collections. Why is the paid media silent?" Her comments reflect a growing concern about the film's reception and the potential manipulation of box office figures.
In a previous interview, Divya Khosla Kumar addressed the frequent comparisons drawn between Jigra and her own film, Savi. "Yes, I have been asked this question numerous times by the media and industry regarding the similarities between Savi and Jigra," she explained. "Our film is based on a jailbreak story, revolving around how a simple housewife attempts to free her husband from prison. While Jigra and Savi may seem alike, I believe each film has its unique journey." This assertion underscores the importance of narrative individuality within the film industry, regardless of perceived thematic parallels.
As for Jigra's actual box office performance, the film managed to earn โน4.55 crores on its opening day. According to a report by Sacnilk, there was a modest increase in earnings on the following day, with the film grossing โน6.50 crores. While these figures may appear respectable, they have not quelled the controversy surrounding the film, nor have they silenced the critiques levied against its credibility.
