Ashutosh Gowariker, a name synonymous with cinematic brilliance, is celebrated for his iconic directorial ventures like Lagaan, Swades, and Jodhaa Akbar. His unique approach to storytelling has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema, garnering global acclaim. However, beyond directing, Gowariker has also showcased his acting prowess in films like Holi, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, and Circus. After a hiatus from acting, he returned with performances in Ventilator (2016) and Kaala Paani (2023).
Now, Gowariker is set to take on another challenging role in the upcoming series Manvat Murders. Scheduled to stream on Sony LIV from October 4th, the show is already creating a buzz with its gripping trailer. In this series, Gowariker steps into the shoes of IPS officer Ramakant S. Kulkarni, marking his first portrayal of a real-life character on screen.
In a recent interview, Gowariker expressed his excitement about embodying the late officer, whose work left a significant impact. “Ramakant ji solved numerous cases that might have otherwise remained unsolved. His book Footprints on the Sands of Crime provided incredible insight into his meticulous process, his eye for detail, and how he handled suspects, ultimately getting them to confess,” Gowariker shared.
To ensure his portrayal was as authentic as possible, Gowariker delved into research, meeting with Kulkarni’s family. “I met Ramakant ji's wife, his daughter Anita Bhogle, and her husband Harsha Bhogle to gain a deeper understanding of the character—his persona, behavior, and beliefs. Their inputs were invaluable in helping me prepare for the role,” he added. Gowariker hopes that through Manvat Murders, the legendary officer's work will receive the recognition it deserves.
With Ashutosh Gowariker headlining this crime drama, fans eagerly await another stellar performance from the seasoned actor-director, as he brings to life the legacy of Ramakant S. Kulkarni.
