The multi-faceted Ashutosh Gowariker, a name synonymous with some of Indian cinema's finest works such as Lagaan, Jodhaa Akbar, and Swades, is ready to take on a new role. This time, however, Gowariker is stepping away from the director's chair and onto the screen as an actor in the upcoming web series Manvat Murders. With the release of the show's trailer, fans and critics alike are already hailing his performance, praising his ability to bring his depth and skill to yet another facet of storytelling.

In Manvat Murders, Gowariker will be portraying DSP Ramakant Kulkarni, a real-life character, in what promises to be a gripping crime drama. His portrayal of Kulkarni is already being lauded, and anticipation for the series continues to grow ahead of its release on Sony LIV on October 4th, 2024.

Ahead of the show's release, Gowariker took time to meet with the family of DSP Ramakant Kulkarni. He was joined by the show's director Ashish Bendre and writer Girish Joshi during the visit, where they spent time with Ramakant Kulkarni’s wife, Mrs Kulkarni, their daughter Anita Bhogle, her husband, and well-known cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle. The visit provided Gowariker with deeper insights into Kulkarni's life, offering a more personal connection to the man he would be portraying on screen.

Reflecting on the experience, Gowariker shared, “Meeting the Kulkarnis was humbling. Hearing about Ramakant ji’s warmth and love for his family, his gentlemanly attitude towards criminals, and his leadership qualities gave me a deeper understanding of the man behind the uniform.”

He added, “With newfound admiration for him, I approached his character. It was important for the entire Manvat Murders team to honour not just the officer but also the person and his family through this show.”
