Meta has launched its safety campaign, ‘Scams se Bacho,’ in collaboration with Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana. This initiative aims to educate the public on staying safe from online scams and promote safer digital practices. The campaign is a partnership with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), reflecting Meta’s commitment to safeguarding users online while supporting the government's efforts to combat the increasing cases of cyber fraud in India.
The educational campaign highlights some of the most common scams individuals encounter in their daily lives, urging them to remain alert and exercise caution before taking any action. The accompanying film emphasizes a variety of safety features available on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, which empower users to take control of their online security.
In the campaign film, Ayushmann Khurrana plays a vigilant wedding guest who cleverly intervenes to prevent others from falling victim to scams. With his quick thinking and comedic flair, he showcases several of Meta’s safety features, including Two-Factor Authentication, Block and Report, and WhatsApp’s group privacy settings. This campaign serves as a crucial reminder of how Meta’s built-in product features and safety tools can help protect users from scams, fraud, and account compromise threats.
Speaking about the campaign's launch, Ayushmann Khurrana stated, "In today's digital landscape, with the rampant increase of online scams and frauds that sometimes can seem very convincing, it's crucial that we stay vigilant and educate ourselves on how to stay safe. I’m thrilled to be a part of Meta’s safety initiative that aims to drive awareness around how people can safeguard themselves from potential cyber scams. It's an important reminder to think twice before you act and utilize Meta’s safety tools, empowering you to take control of your online safety."
The campaign also showcases a wide array of scams, including OTP scams that compromise personal accounts and confidential information, impersonation scams that create a sense of urgency to trick individuals into sending money, as well as trading and investment scams promising unrealistic returns, and fraudulent loan apps. Through this initiative, Meta aims to demonstrate how its straightforward yet effective safety features can provide essential protection against online scams and fraud.
